Curriculum

At Sandia Base the emphasis is on Reading and Math as the basis for success in the 21st century. Sandia Base has adopted the Common Core State Standards in all grades, K-5th. These new standards for Math and English-Language Arts (ELA) focus on providing lessons and practice in building a stronger foundation of basic skills for each student. Each unit is taught, reviewed, and extended until every student in the class shows understanding and/or mastery of the content.

Students at all grade levels at Sandia Base will utilize the Stepping Stones research-based curriculum. This is a problem-solving program that meets Common Core State Math Standards and relies heavily on the ability to read and understand complex mathematical concepts at each grade level. Mathematics is taught for at least 60 minutes daily.

The literacy program at Sandia Base is called Treasures.  This is a complete reading program that provides strategies that include shared reading and writing, guided reading, and independent reading tied to the Common Core State Standards.  Literacy is taught for at least 90 minutes each day.
